About Me

Erin Laedtke
This is me!
This page is all about me! I am a computer science major at the University of Minnesota Duluth, and I've written a list of my personal interests and a little bit about each of them below!

Personal Interest List:
|
|
|
|
- Merida:
After begging my parents for a dog basically as long as I could speak, I came home on Valentines Day in 3rd grade to find my parents had bought me an adorable pekanese laso apso mix puppy! The move Brave had come out on my birthday that past June, and, as I was obsessed with it, I decided to name my new puppy Merida, after the movie's princess. She 12 years old now, but remains my baby through and through.

- Molly:
Merida had a lot of separation anxiety, which she holds onto to this day. My mother's solution was to get her a friend, and so along came Molly, my mom's own Mother's Day gift to herself. She's without question my mom's dog, and as old lady like as a dog can get. She was a rescue, so we're unsure about her breed and age, but our guess is some type of terrier mutt and, given we've had her almost a decade(and she's acted like a grandmother every second of it), decently old.

|
- Momo:
Technically speaking Momo is actually my mom's boyfriend's dog, but she has lived with us for several years now and is thoroughly integrated into the household. She began staying with us because we have a decent sized house, a fenced in yard, and other dogs to keep her company while we're gone, not to mention my mom works from home. She is a toy american eskimo, and the most obnoxious little attention hog you'll ever meet. Not a moment of peace in her presence, and the worst part is you can't even be mad at her because she's just too darn cute and lovable, and that little brat knows it!

|
- Minecraft:
Minecraft is actually the reason I wanted to go into compsci! The modding world of minecraft is incredible, and I found myself falling down a rabbithole of 'recipe-editing'. Essentially, I didn't make mods because I didn't know how, but I would edit mods that already existed, specifically to make them more compatible with each other. That experience unlocked the puzzle-solving part of my brain that is the backbone of a coder, and is the reason I'm in this class rightnow.

- Stardew Valley:
I got this game as a gift from a friend, and in the course of half a year quadrupled her playtime. I did admittedly burn myself out on it and haven't played in a bit, but I still love this game to pieces and can lose hours in a session.

|
- Ark Survival Evolved/Ascended:
Ark Survival Evolved was a game I loved to watch youtubers play as a kid. I have such incredibly fond memories of those times, and now that I have my own money and access to games, I've bought both it and it's remaster: Ark Survival Ascended.

- My Favorite Music Artists:
|
|
- The Crane Wives:
I usually listen to music on a song by song basis, and don't really care about the artist. There's a small handful of exceptions to this rule, and by far my favorite of these exceptions is The Crane Wives. The band is mainly known for their folky style, though they've dipped their toe into a more rockish sound in newer releases. I've decided to add an extra sublist with my top songs from them:
- Take Me to War
- Curses
- Unraveling
- Never Love an Anchor
- Hollow Moon

|
- Ethel Cain:
If caring about artists is a rarity for me, caring about albums is pretty much unheard of. Preacher's Daughter by Ethel Cain is one of the only exceptions I have to my name. Preacher's Daughter is a concept album, following a storyline that the artist has contemplated writing as a novel, and viewed as a whole is an incredible experience and piece of artwork. Despite this, every single song stands on its own. Her style is not for everyone, as it covers some dark subjects and can get very experimental at times with its sound. The more experimental music is not my thing personally, so all of my favorite songs listed below are ones that stand on their own as enjoyable listens, not just as interesting uses of the medium. Though she's most recognized for Preacher's Daughter, I also love many of her other songs, and some of them are included below as well.
- Thoroughfare
- Crush
- A House In Nebraska
- Knuckle Velvet
- American Teenager

- Flower Face:
This one was a hard one. I was torn on my third favorite artist, as both Flower Face and Trousdale are about on the same level for me. Ultimately I decided screw it, I'll just include both. They're on the same level for me because they're both pretty unknown, just random artists I've found on spotify autoplay, and a lot of the connection I've found with the above two came from being able to discuss them with a small but very passionate fanbase. Despite not having the level of interaction that breeds true passion, they are both artists who I've found to be chalked absolutely full of excellent songs that I can either play in the background or get lost in completely. Flower Face specifically is a very calming artist, with a beautiful voice and gorgeous instrumentation, she usually sweeps you away on her melancholic rhythms, or, occasionally, fills you with the manic urge to dance or scream or both.
- Maybe
- Spiracle
- Isobel
- October Birds
- Baby Teeth

|
- Trousdale:
My other pick for third favorite artist, Trousdale is a band of three girls with some INCREDIBLE harmony. Arguably, that's their single biggest draw, the perfect match and flow between their voices. They can either combine their harmonies with pretty acoustic to build a beautiful, calming atmosphere, or belt like their lives depend on it with fun instrumental to make incredibly fun songs
- If I'm Honest
- Bad Blood
- Growing Pains
- Wouldn't Come Back
- Happy Anymore
